Well done England, but let's not get carried away. Iran was poor and unthreatening. The truth was that even against this lack of threat England was caught out defensively. Once Maguire was challenged he was pulled out of position easily, just as he has been for Man U. Worrying. England is like a glass cannon. They were never my favourites before and this performance does nothing to convince me otherwise.
Thumb downs for the Brazilian referee, no surprised about those ugly habits of referees as they want to steal the stellar role in a match. No neccesity for give 10 minutes of extratime in both halfs, that just stretched the agony of Iran team. No matter that shot on post at final.
Really liked England perfomance, they never stopped attacking in spite the match had already decided. Also liked Kane in that new assitant/game generator's role. , Also, credit to the 9 from Iranian team as he got the only chance he had and then scored.
With 15 minutes to go England have a good chance of getting their highest ever margin of victory at a World Cup. Their current record (I think) was beating Panama 6-1 at the 2018 World Cup in Russia so they need two more.
@Marbella More likely they know they'll be ok. The regime is hanging by a thread. Anyway, well done England. A pity Quieroz has such negative style. Even if the penalty at the end was unncessary, I liked his cool delivery.
All the best to Iranian people in the fight against their totalitarian government. However, they won't win today. Would be nice to see them win though.
Personally, I'm rooting for the Middle Eastern and African teams, but I hope England does well. I hope Kane in particular has a shining tournament. He is unlikely to ever win major prices with Spurs, which is amazing for one of the great strikers in the world. I'd really love to see him reach the finals in a WC.
English players to cut their hair, kneel for BLM, and wear rainbow bands. It's coming home, football is coming home, save football from this beerless Qatar World Cup.
When you put Pickford instead of Nick Pope or Ramsdale, when you put Sterling ahead of Foden, when you start Maguire ahead of anyone else.. you are doomed. Just England things.
@Zoltan Yes. I remember when Germany crashed out under Franz Beckenbauer. They rued the day; if only they hired Gerd Muller they could have won the World Cup.
@Zoltan Rafael Benítez, Jock Stein, Vicente del Bosque, Giovanni Trapattoni, Franz Beckenbauer, Berti Vogts, Ernst Happel, Frank Rijkaard, Didier Deschamps. Pep Guardiola was a defensive midfielder. Jürgen Klopp played right back.
Finally England plays some attractive, engaging football and does not just react to it's opponents.

This was enough, penalty called 2 minutes after the time stoppage. Referee should be embarrassed but mission done,

@dib especially in the 1st half it was necessary imo
@wilde In 1st half I agree. In 2nd half no reason to me, and much less 10 more minutes!
@dib yes, in the 2nd half it was strange tbh

@MEHJones Apparently this result is the first ever 6-2 in a World Cup so that's something I suppose.
The Iranian team refused to sing the Iranian national anthem so they will be seeking asylum soon :)
@Marbella More likely they know they'll be ok. The regime is hanging by a thread. Anyway, well done England. A pity Quieroz has such negative style. Even if the penalty at the end was unncessary, I liked his cool delivery.
I hope Saka gets his hat trick.
This is quite pathetic from Iran.
Bellingham is running the show.Remarkable form for such a young player.
@Marbella Saka too
The Maguire Masterclass
Iran are playing a very defensive zonal marking system with 5 at the back.
The Iranians might just wanna play a defensive match. Not intending to score
England 3-0
England to win 3-1, mark my sussy words
Done Kane to score first with 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, 5-0
3-0 England
All the best to Iranian people in the fight against their totalitarian government. However, they won't win today. Would be nice to see them win though.
Iran will win
@Lvc fool

When you put Pickford instead of Nick Pope or Ramsdale, when you put Sterling ahead of Foden, when you start Maguire ahead of anyone else.. you are doomed. Just England things.
@Barele well that aged well…
@Barele hello?
@Barele see you here at 3pm
Under 2.5 goals @1.66
BTTS
England's greatest liability is their coach: how can one choose a defender as your national coach??? He has no clue about the attacking game.....
@Zoltan to be a good defender you have to understand the attacking game…
@Zoltan Yes. I remember when Germany crashed out under Franz Beckenbauer. They rued the day; if only they hired Gerd Muller they could have won the World Cup.
@Zoltan What are you talking about :) England scored 39 goals in the qualifiers.More than France+Spain
@Zoltan there were and there are many good coaches who used to play as defenders or defensive midfielders. Don't be ridiculous.
@wilde Please name just one! LOL
@Zoltan Rafael Benítez, Jock Stein, Vicente del Bosque, Giovanni Trapattoni, Franz Beckenbauer, Berti Vogts, Ernst Happel, Frank Rijkaard, Didier Deschamps. Pep Guardiola was a defensive midfielder. Jürgen Klopp played right back.
@BeautifulLoser agreed to all of them, but Klopp often played striker too.
@Zoltan one? I can name many, but if you want one... Ernst Happel, for example
@Zoltan Sérgio Conceição
@Zoltan, Cesare
@Zoltan , Ever heard of Crsare Maldini ?
0-0 or 1-1. Iran are great tactically.
England 3-0
England fans, pay attention, Harry Maguire commits a penalty foul on Taremi
1-0 England
those last 6 results for england are terrible, whereas iran beat uruguay and drew to senegal...still england win obviously lol
@Icarax well idk what i was talking about but anyway 2/2
@Icarax what THE Senegal?
