Team News

Aston Villa
Chelsea
  • Ludwig Augustinsson, Boubacar Kamara, Lucas Digne and Diego Carlos all remain out.
  • Leon Bailey is poised to return after having a small muscle issue ahead of the draw with Nottingham Forest and with Steven Gerrard talking about making changes from that game.
  • Wesley Fofana and N'Golo Kante both remain sidelined.
  • Hakim Ziyech didn't travel with Chelsea for the win over AC Milan owing to illness, but may be alright to make the squad for this one.
  • Reece James was forced off in that win in midweek and will endure a spell on the sidelines now, with the right-back set to miss the World Cup.

Prediction

  • Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last four games, only winning one of those games, against Southampton 1-0. They are the joint lowest scorers in the league with seven and the only time in the league this season in which they have scored more than one goal in a game came in the second game of the season, when they beat Everton 2-1.
  • Chelsea will be coming into this game full of confidence, on the back of a 2-0 win in the Champions League away to AC Milan at the San Siro. After a mixed start to the league season, they have now won their last three Premier League games in a row and sit in fourth place behind third place Spurs by four points, though the Blues have a game in hand over their London rivals.
  • Villa are only three points clear of the relegation zone and are in desperate need for points and goals. They have looked good against bigger opposition this season, including drawing 1-1 with Manchester City at home last month, so may be able to get something here, but will have to be weary of the quality Chelsea possesses in attack.
