Team News

Celtic
Motherwell
  • Ange Postecoglou made six changes after Celtic’s disappointing draw in the Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw, before they fell to their first league loss in nearly a year courtesy of a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren in Paisley.
  • Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh entered the back four at Josip Juranovic and Cameron Carter-Vickers' expense. Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull joined Callum McGregor in midfield, to replace Reo Hatate and Matt O'Riley.
  • Jota and Sean Haksabanovic also made way, as Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda supported Kyogo Furuhashi up front. The aforementioned Maeda and Giorgos Giakoumakis have both picked up knocks whilst away with their national teams.
  • Stevie Hammell made just one change to the Motherwell team that played out a goalless draw with Dundee United at Fir Park, before they hosted Hearts and somehow lost 3-0 in Lanarkshire.
  • Barry Maguire replaced Callum Slattery, joining Sean Goss in the Motherwell midfield ahead of the back four as Ross Tierney kept his place in the trio supporting lone striker Kevin van Veen.
  • Joseph Efford and Rolando Aarons picked up injuries against the Jambos, with Stuart McKinstry likely to start. The Well handed a second debut to club cult hero Louis Moult, off the bench against Hearts, before he had a goal disallowed for offside.

Prediction

  • Celtic and Motherwell go head-to-head at Parkhead, looking to avenge frustrating league defeats that they suffered last time out in the Scottish Premiership.
  • The Hoops went nearly a year without tasting defeat in Scotland's top tier, as their loss to St Mirren was their first in 38 league games. 364 days after defeat to Livingston in West Lothian, they fell to a 2-0 defeat to the Buddies in Paisley prior to the international break. Should Rangers win in Edinburgh - against Hearts at Tynecastle - on Saturday lunchtime, Celtic must do the same.
  • Motherwell will be looking to make it back-to-back league defeats for Celtic. Last time out, against Hearts, they created a whole host of chances but struggled to take them. Couple that with being dreadful defensively and it's a recipe for disaster. However, there's plenty of positives to take from that performance as they head to Glasgow's east end with all intention of causing an upset.
  • Celtic scored 13 goals in their four league meetings with Motherwell last season, winning each of them without conceding a single goal. The reigning champions should hold onto top spot in the Premiership this weekend with a victory over the visitors here.
