Team News

Bayern
Borussia Dortmund
  • Manuel Neuer suffered a muscle tear and will not be rushed back into action. New signing Jonas Urbig might continue in goal.
  • Kingsley Coman has a foot injury, while Jamal Musiala is ruled out for several weeks with a thigh injury. Alphonso Davies suffered an ACL tear playing for Canada and will miss the rest of the season. Dayot Upamecano is back in light training after suffering a knee injury, while Hiroki Ito broke his foot recently.
  • Eric Dier has never let anyone down in his Bayern career so far and is good option in central defence, as another defender Min-Jae Kim has an Achilles injury which needs monitoring. Aleksandar Pavlovic is nearing a return to the squad after recovering from glandular fever.
  • Yan Couto is available after suspension, but Nico Schlotterbeck has played his last football of the season after suffering a muscle tear.
  • Marcel Sabitzer is ruled out for several weeks with a knee injury, so the likes of Waldemar Anton or Salih Özcan might have to help out in midfield.

Prediction

  • A hotly-contested "Klassiker" of sorts with the Bavarian powerhouse hosting Dortmund who languish in eighth spot.
  • Both teams will have more than one eye on their midweek Champions League returns against Inter Milan and Barcelona respectively.
  • Bayern have scored in their last 17 home games, last failing to do so in March 2024 in the 2-0 defeat to BVB.
  • Former Bayern boss Niko Kovac has overseen four league wins and four defeats since taking over as Dortmund head coach.
  • Bayern, the league's highest scorers with 81, have scored five goals in a Bundesliga game five times this season, and have conceded the fewest goals as well, 27.
  • Anything other than a Bayern win would be a surprise given the league leaders enjoy the added bonus of 24 hours more rest and recuperation.
