Team News

Porto
Benfica
  • Martín Anselmi might opt for a more conservative approach against Benfica, moving Eustáquio from the heart of the defence to the middle of the park, which would open the Starting XI door to either Otávio or Zé Pedro.
  • Samu ended his goal drought after scoring an equaliser against Estoril last weekend. The FC Porto striker will push for a start up front, forcing Anselmi to opt for a pure striker.
  • João Mário might start further forward once again after doing so against title contenders SC Braga, with Martim Fernandes featuring at right-wing back.
  • Tomás Araújo was rested in midweek and will likely feature at right-back on Sunday, relegating Dahl to the bench, especially if Lage opts for a three-man defensive line.
  • The same goes for Florentino who was at risk of getting a yellow card that would keep him out of the Clássico. The midfielder should be paired with Kokçu in the Benfica engine room, with Aursnes featuring in the number 10 role.
  • Akturkoglu bagged an assist and a brace last weekend and will push for a start out wide, with Di María starting at the opposite flank. Bruma, Schjelderup and Amdouni are also options but should start the game on the bench.

Prediction

  • For the first time in 2025 FC Porto achieved back-to-back victories after beating Estoril last weekend. Even so, the Dragons were far from convincing and there's a lot for Martin Anselmi's men to improve upon, especially in their attacking process. Despite the nine-point gap at the top, they still have their sights set on the top of the league and this game against Benfica will be crucial to that.
  • Benfica had to work hard to beat Farense in midweek, but the truth is that they ended up claiming their eighth league win in a row. The Eagles are in the fight for the title and the game with FC Porto is extremely important to keep that hope alive, not least because of the pressure a win would put on Sporting, who have a difficult game against SC Braga the following day.
  • The last time the two teams met at the Estádio do Dragão, FC Porto beat Benfica 5-0, but things should be different on Sunday. On one hand, SL Benfica come into this game with less time to rest after playing in midweek, but they're in much better form than FC Porto, who are still building under Martin Anselmi. With this in mind, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Eagles came out on top.
