Team News

St. Johnstone
Ross County
  • St Johnstone boss Simo Valakari made four changes to the Saints team that lost a topsy-turvy clash 3-2 to Motherwell at Fir Park, before a 2-0 home defeat to Kilmarnock at McDiarmid Park last weekend.
  • Andy Fisher continued in goal behind a back three of Sven Sprangler, Daniels Balodis and Barry Douglas, who replaced Sam Curtis. Taylor Steven started at left wing-back with Graham Carey on the right-hand side of midfield.
  • Jason Holt and Stephen Duke-McKenna made way in midfield, with Victor Griffith and Elliot Watt replacing them. Josh McPake accompanied Makenzie Kirk in support of Uche Ikpeazu - chosen over Adama Sidibeh - in attack.
  • Ross County boss Don Cowie made three changes from the Staggies' 2-0 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, before they took the lead but lost 3-1 at home to Hearts on Saturday afternoon in Dingwall.
  • Jordan Amissah continued in goal behind a centre-back trio of Zac Ashworth, Jonathan Tomkinson and Akil Wright. George Harmon replaced Elijah Campbell to start at right wing-back, as James Brown replaced Kacper Lopata on the right.
  • Connor Randall and Nohan Kenneh were chosen in midfield again, as Scott Allardice dropped out for another striker to start. Jordan White was accompanied by Ronan Hale and Alex Samuel in the Staggies' attack.

Prediction

  • The bottom two teams in the Scottish Premiership meet at McDiarmid Park in a big basement battle between St Johnstone and Ross County in Perth this weekend.
  • St Johnstone know that a defeat to Ross County will bring an automatic end to their longest ever stay in Scotland's top tier having been part of the top-flight since 2009/10. Despite a thrilling 3-3 draw in Dingwall back in September, Saints have played Ross County twice in Perth since and have won both league meetings without conceding a goal to their opponents. They'd love to keep that trend going here.
  • Ross County's poor record against Hearts continued, having won just one of their last 19 Scottish Premiership meetings (D10 L8) against the Jambos. The Staggies have lost six league matches in a row, only losing more top tier games in their history on the spin in September 2014 (7). And, having lost at McDiarmid Park in February, it would be a disaster for County if they did so again this Saturday.
  • Both teams find themselves at the wrong end of the table for a reason, but if Saints were to sneak past County then it'd set up a dramatic finale to the Scottish Premiership season.
