  • not agian! arsenal knocked out again

  • what do u do. When mix Gunner, Chelsea, and spuds as one. U get Steve Hyland ultimate fanboy of epl who hates every league in the world like serie a, la liga or ligue 1 etc.

  • Instead of buying any single player in the world, you'd better grow some local boys as we did for ages. Monaco did It! European legend goes on

  • ac milan, bayern, and now monaco.. if gabriel was played at the first leg, things could be different......... i dont care how good our german rhino performed was i'd sell him for a decent CB. even senderos is better than him

  • It's a shame that Arsenal conceded at the end of the first leg because, if this performance shows anything, they probably deserved to move to the quarterfinal. That being said, Monaco were tough. Hope to see them play more like they did in the first leg moving forward in this competition.

  • good performance by Özil, bad by Sanchez do you guys remember last year when Özil was excellent in the first half of the season and disappeared lated? I'm afraid the same is happening to Alexis

  • very strange coincidence for arsenal~ for last four yrs, arsenal always won that second match but did not qualify for the next round due to the defeat from the first leg....

  • @LeodaCJ It's not a coincidence, it's a trend. A devastating one at that.

  • Arsenal did a good game today, Monaco made a even better in the first hand... and this is the result. Too good teams. "Luck" fell to Monaco's side.

  • Last time Monaco was in CL finals was vs Mourinho's Porto, so let's hope they get Porto in QF to revenge for that defeat Great defence Monaco, congratulations!!!

  • @Leinad Revenge? Monaco would lose again.

  • Typical Arsenal. They are unbeaten in their last four CL last 16 2nd leg matches(3W,1D) - yet they have been knocked on each occasion.

  • Total domination in this game- even when Monaco tried to play, that spell lasted 3 minutes and normal service resumed. I wouldn't give a single Monaco player a rating above 6.5 whereas I wouldn't give a single Arsenal outfield player (that started) less than 7.5. Regardless of how many goals we needed to get through, I don't think anyone could argue that we deserved to win this game by 3 or more goals. Monaco are far from a good team, we just played 1 of our worst ever games under Wenger in the first leg which ultimately cost us.

  • @SteveHyland I feel like I have to comment this often. The rating system is based on stats if you want a different system of ratings go to goal.com or some other site.

  • @Rik1994- I'm not talking about WhoScored's ratings, I'm talking about real world performance.

  • @SteveHyland You're Arsenal personified. Always the if onlys. Monaco's performances warranted getting through more than Arsenal's. That is undeniable.

  • @Yeovil247- Even today's performance? Are you for real? For it to be just an even tie, Monaco would've needed to outplay us in the Emirates game as much as we did tonight- which they clearly didn't.

  • even though we didn't get through, I'm glad to see some good results and form from arsenal

  • a team without actual fans get into the next round on away goals

  • @JoeB91 Its about what you do on the pitch.

  • @JoeB91- Cynical man. Next you'll be saying Bono was there just to get his face on the big screen and not because he is a hardcore Monaco fan...

  • @JoeB91 And most of all without a single shot on goal ...

  • @JoeB91 the team without actual fans were louder than the team with actual fans at the emirates mate....

  • @Murgen they've averaged 8000 at home games this season and are nothing more than a project for a guy with too much money, its the sort of team that people will "support" because of the money

  • @JoeB91 Monaco have been of the most popular clubs in France for decades now, even without money. Most of their fans live far from Monaco though, which explains the lack of passion at home. I know it might sound unusual to an English, but that's how it works there.

  • @Murgen- Surely if a club sells only half of it's tickets for home league matches, the club should be relocated to an area where more locals will be able to watch them? It doesn't matter if Monaco have 1 billion fans if only 8 to 9,000 of them travel to the games. The/any club needs support from the local area so it is self-sustaining and if fans don't/can't go to the games then what is the point having a club there? The fact is, Monaco has now become a vanity project just like the town itself. I'm sure when it was established, there was hope the club would grow and garner support from in and around Monaco but it doesn't. It's not so much the total number that go that matters, it's the % of the stadium filled on average and for Monaco that is a shocking 43%. The lowest in the prem is Aston Villa with 77% (the only team below 87%) and they aren't in the CL and contesting a domestic title. The average attendances by most teams in Ligue 1 in general is pathetic though, not just Monaco.

  • @Murgen Let them be, they are just pathetic. Monaco was 3x better in the first leg, what were they supposed to do? GO all attack today? You should be happy you lost, otherwise you would get RM, Barca or Bayern and your team would be embarrassed...

  • Congrats to Monaco who where the "lucky draw" for Arsenal in december. Be careful what you wish for...

  • @Umeboshi actually, I'll be terrified of the score if it was a team like barca or even psg...

  • away goal rule is massive, would of liked to see ET :(

  • we paid the price for our defensive failure. Hope it would be lesson for arsenal. But the game I saw today makes me believe we have got it to be among the top 10 clubs worldwide.

  • @hasan Please Arsenal no way to be called even in top 20! Just the same show year after year after year.... 4th in EPL 1/8 finals in UCL so this mean absolutely nothing.

  • The thing about Arsenal is that they always try to walk it in.

  • already say, sub top club arsenal wont make it..

  • Monaco is a SHAME!!!

  • This Save is equivalent to a goal!

  • SO CLOSE

  • That was a hell of a pass by Ozil

  • Let's go!!! 1 more to go

  • RAMBO TIME

  • arsenal away better, monaco away better

  • sub club arsenal wont make it. monaco better.

  • someone needs to tell arsenal to shoot the damn ball inside the 18

  • please wenger walcott for welbeck

  • damn losing possession too easily for arsenal

  • Looking back 2-0 would've been better than 3-1

  • @madridistagunner- Tbh, we shouldn't have tried to get a draw at the Emirates when we got it back to 1-2. That made us wide open for their 3rd goal which all but killed the tie.

  • Is Kondogbia going to get a free kick EVERY time he falls on his arse? And a yellow card for Sanchez for diving yet none for all the Monaco players feigning injury most notably Moutinho. A goal before the hour mark and I think we'll get the 3 needed.

  • @SteveHyland Moutinho is a midget though.. a slight whisper of wind knocks his ass out

  • hope Arsenal 3-0, boring teams like Monaco should be out sooner than koncok out round

  • @koziol.mutant Was Monaco boring in the first leg ? They did the job, now they just need to sit tight.

  • @Murgen- Yeah they were boring. Effective but boring- just as they have been in every single champions league game this season.

  • A little more contribution from rb and lb, arsenal can score another.

  • Last thing right now arsenal need is bad refereeing

  • That should have been a penalty...stupid ref

  • @hasan His legs locked man

  • Wow, already fall a sleep for three times when arsenal have the ball. Boring arsenal wont win ****! Arsenal is sub top, monaco top club

  • Arsenal sucks! Monaco great team. Fighting spirit

  • @cforcrime are you watching a different game? so far i've seen camping, long clearances and faking injury twice

  • @JoeB91 Don't mind the troll

  • This is exactly the type of situation that suits AS Monaco FC. They are very disciplined and have a solid goalkeeper and back line. The thing about Monaco is, they aren't your average defensive minded squad. They have a ton of creativity and pace on the midfield and up front. They have the perfect players to play transition football. My prediction is that this match will be a sequel to the second half in London. Tons of space for Monaco to exploit and with Moutinho, Carrasco and Martial in good form, they will score on the break. 3-1

  • @FerreiraCarrasco Hard to score when you don't have a single shot on target. It's Mourinho style parking the bus from Monaco. Embarrassing really..

  • @FerreiraCarrasco I think Monaco will qualify but you might be a bit too much optimistic for this evening, I doubt Arsenal will be humiliated a second time! But hopefully, Monaco will join PSG and none of this will really matter ;)

  • @FerreiraCarrasco I couldn't agree more. Up until now, Monaco remains unfairly portrayed as an overrated defensively team, and to be fair their first games in CL this season gave a lot of reasons to make this point. But the club was still recovering from a pretty worrying transfer season, and had to digest the Ranieri-Jardim transition. But since November the team is progressing at a fast pace and I think tonight's game will take many critics by surprise, exactly for the reasons you evoke.

  • Anyone who thinks arsenal and city can overturn the deficits and get through to the next round of CL need a reality check. Neither arsenal nor city have not performed well in the CL tournament till now. Even the domestic form of both teams are not that good either. Many fans and even savants in the football world on Sky predicted that Arsenal can defeat monaco and progress through to the QF. Highly delusional to say the least. Monaco are not easy to beat at all. Arsenal does not stand any chance of progression to the QF in this year CL tournament. As far as city it already done and dusted tie. Barcelona are back to their best in the recent weeks and lead the primera division standings now

  • 0-5

  • Now every BPL club want Arsenal to win ... just for the sake of English fotball.. Coz they Know city Gonna lose anyway.. haha

  • @hamaess For the sake of Premier League football u mean, because there is nearly no english player engaged in the CL this season, like every year in fact.

  • @rckadm yes i'am with you

  • 0-5 Gunners WIN!!!

  • Mon 0-1 ars

  • Perfect form for monaco's players. Monaco will be very aggressive with Toulalan back in DMC position. The game should be the same as Emirates, except i don't see as many goal. Monaco win 2-1.

  • And Toulalan Man of the match as usual

  • Yeah Arsenal are very unpredictable Monaco 0-1 Arsenal.

  • 1:1

  • Come on you Gunners.........Fight till the last..........Please give some likes.....

  • I doubt Ramsey will start given his injury layoff. I expect Cazorla to play next to Coqeulin, Oezil in the 10 and Walcott on the right wing to test Kurzawa's defensive patience. I'm a big fan of Layvin's but he is a left-winger playing at left back (similar to Bale) and wants to go forward more than defend. I'm going to predict 3-0 Arsenal, being positive.

  • From AZE 1-3

  • 0-2 for Gunners

  • @Roorck nice, called it.

  • 0-1

  • Subasic and our defence will defend. I predict 1:1.

  • Last time Monaco has conceded 3 goals at home was in a 1:3 defeat against SCO Angers 9/9/2011 (Ligue 2). Just thought I will leave this here.

  • @Existenzrippchen- That's some good research and I'll take any omen I can find. Ha

  • Arsenal win but in vain 3-2 for arsenal or 3-3

  • I believe that Arsenal can do it !!! COYG !!

  • 0_0

  • COYG!!!

  • 1-1

  • Alexis Sanchez will score double for Arsenal !

  • Arsenal opened up at Emirates and invited Monaco to score 3 goals! Monaco at best can score 1 goal past a good team and sit back! Arsenal lost at least 4 goal chances with Giroud and Walcott and I expect total control of the game by Arsenal. Monaco only have one single gameplan and that is to defend and counter! Cazorla MOM, Ozil to get 2 Assists, Ramsey, Sanchez and Giroud to score. 0:3 or 1:3 game to go extra time and Arsenal to win by 2 goals if it goes extra time. COYG!

  • @albgunn still have a little bit of doubt, against west ham, we were wasteful with our chances by ozil and walcott

  • @49unbeaten- Walcott especially. How he thinks he can ever be a striker is beyond me. I agree with what Albgunn said, Monaco are a team set up to defend and hit on the counter. I don't think we'll be as wasteful as against West Ham but I think the problem is getting the chances we need against a team who's modus operandi is sticking 7 behind the ball and counter attacking.

  • Monaco - Arsenal 1:2

  • Can Arsenal put these out now. With their one goal syndrome hope they win

  • .

  • in my point Monaco could beat every single in Europe now except Bayern

  • @ambrose agree

  • @ambrose lololololololol

  • it's silly for those who bet on a away win. Monaco is the best defending team in Europe at this point. Their counter attacking strategy fits the rivals like arsenal, barcelona, dortmund... tonight Stade Louis II probably the grave of Arsenal

  • @ambrose Reality is silly for delusional people like you. Hard to get a home win with 0 shots on target and 3, 3! shots all game.

  • Big result for Monaco at Emirates. Considering they suffer few goals playing in home, think Arsenal can not reverse the advantage. It's a 0x2.

  • I pray that none of the arsenal players have a bad game and that Jérémy Toulalan and Geoffrey Kondogbia stay off the pitch the bench and on the bench. Thank you

  • you will see the real Arsenal tommorrow! 0-3

  • @MARAN Monaco don't give deep space on defense, only long shot could be dangerous for them, and with Toulalan and Kondogbia, they won't get a lot's of chance to shot.

  • @MARAN Monaco conceded only 2 goals this season in CL, in French ligue they are also received the less, Arsenal should be blessed if they want to go on

  • Welbeck in Ozil out !

  • @ake23mk Anyway, i think both players are overestimated, and they have a lot's of problem to shine against solid team.

  • arsenal isnt that good. monaco is a team that fight for each other. arsenal will lose. monaco have better team

  • @cforcrime ِDid you Watch Arsenal vs West Ham ? They played really well and if they play like this again they might get to the next round

  • @Abdurrahman Don't compare west ham's defence with Monaco please...

  • Trying to vote for Subasic Man of the match but it doesn't work :(

  • 0-2 or 1-2

  • Monaco's side remains underrated, but their tactical discipline and very cohesive squad might make it the big surprise of this CL. Sure enough, Arsenal is very good form, but so were they before the first leg, and so is Monaco at the moment. I would be really surprised to see the Rouge et Blanc take the game for granted, and would bet on a 1-1 or 2-1 for Monaco. The first 15min will be absolutely crucial.

  • Monaco 0-2 Arsenal.

  • I scrutinized the first leg , arsenal dint play bad but Monaco's kongdogbia stunner concocted with giroud's holiday sips , psychologically broke down arsenal and subtly monaco capitalized. Arsenal can win here but might fall short of their objective.

  • Last time Monaco conceded 3 goals or more was in August, and it was not at home. I hope they won't waste their advantage here, I'd like to see PSG - Monaco in the next round ;)

  • @Murgen Monaco at Home or Away doesn't make a difference. They have no supporters. Trust me I'm french and I've seen tons of matches of this lame club. Hope Arsenal will make it tomorrow

  • @Milann What are you talking about Milann, the stadium will be full this evening and their fans were great at the Emirates. Sure in the league their arena is quite empty, but that never prevented them from winning matches

  • @Murgen- Yeah full of Arsenal fans. :-p

  • @SteveHyland No you'll see :)

  • @Milann Completely agree. Embarrassing that they can't fill their own small stadium. I guess tax-dodgers, gangsters and corrupt royalty are too cheap to buy tickets to watch football.

  • @Milann i don't see the point of "this lamb club". do you respect every different teams' gaming strategy?

  • 2-4 to arsenal :p

  • arsenal will win 0-5

  • @goonergunner that's the spirit xD

  • i think thatr arsenal will win 2-0

  • I find it funny how people (in general, not just this site) are STILL assuming that Arsenal will win this match. Did no one watch the first leg!!!

  • @madridistagunner There's a few reasons:the way Arsenal played in 1st leg was out of character considering their recent displays - e.g. against City, Man U. The problem is that a patient determined defensive approach, with blistering attacks on the counter, will be hard to pull off, as Monaco don't have to attack too much. They can wait to go on the counter. Arsenal's hope is to play the sort of football that dismantled West Ham - sharp one twos and one touch passes that pry open a stubborn defence. Also Giroud has to avoid his brain going AWOL. Imagine if he had buried at least one of those presentable chances last time out. Monaco sit 4th in form, Arsenal 2nd.

  • @madridistagunner- I think we're assuming Arsenal will win partly BECAUSE of the result at the Emirates. How we played will be in the minds of the team on Tuesday so there isn't a chance in hell we'll play like we did in the 1st leg. Of course, as I said below, Monaco will play very defensively so it'll be difficult to break them down.

  • 1-1 or 2-1.

  • Arsenal can win this game but Monaco will go through imo.

  • @commandozap I will agree on this. I too believe Arsenal have the quality to get a win here but to qualify is much much more difficult.

  • if Schalke can put 4 past Real Madrid, can Arsenal put 3 past Monaco? Another disciplined and focussed defensive perfomance needed, but wit attaking bite. Welbeck to start?

  • @Khanya Welbz can get it done!

  • @Khanya- Of course. We can put 4 or 5 past an extremely overrated Monaco defence but the problem is we know they'll park the bus from minute one so it'll be extremely difficult to break them down and even the great Barcelona teams failed on occasion against such tactics. It's all about starting well and scoring early. If we can create the sort of constant pressure we did against AC Milan that time when we needed to score 4 then we can go into half-time 2 or even 3-0. I don't see Monaco risking attacks when they wont need to score til it goes 3-0 so fingers-crossed our defence won't even get the chance to mess it up again. Bellerin needs to position himself better in particular. It was partly the fact he was out of position which meant Per had to step in for a tackle (or have a race with a fast winger) which led to their 2nd goal. I would like Welbeck to start given his pace. Giroud is easy to defend against when he isn't in & around the box. Sanchez, Cazorla & Oezil need good games.

  • @SteveHyland I think arsenal can win, maybe a 2-0, but because of the need to press can't wait to play on the counter, which means the defensive balance must be held very carefully. Arsenal have beaten many teams three nil, but it's a tough outing

  • @Khanya arsenal arent as good as schalke

  • @karthik.k.k- It's comments like this which ruin this site. There isn't a single world class player in Schalke's squad and we'll have 3 in the team for this match. Madrid played terrible which allowed Schalke to score 4. If Real played even at 75% of their capacity, they would've won 4-1 or something. Arsenal played about as bad as I can remember against Monaco but that doesn't make Monaco a good team by default.

  • @SteveHyland if u compapre by looking world class player then how did atletico win lalgia and reach final of champions league

  • @karthik.k.k- I don't compare by looking at WC players ONLY but they are match winners and we have a few of those whereas Schalke don't. Atletico were successful last year because they had pretty much everyone playing at their best for most of the season (credit to Simeone). They had a solid defensive structure led by Godin who is extremely underrated, Juanfran & Felipe Luis at their best are also very good (maybe not WC but certainly good enough to compete against top wingers). Courtois was amazing as was Gabi in that DM role. Koke has WC potential (big fan of his) and Atletico also had the most potent finisher in world football outside of Messi up front, that being Diego Costa, who is undoubtedly WC. Having said that though, Atletico are the exception that proves the rule (credit to Simeone again!) and they were helped in the league by some very mediocre displays by Barcelona and Real Madrid in games they should've won but drew etc. No disrespect for my earlier comment though. :)
