Team News

Arsenal
Stoke
  • Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker have both returned to training and are expected to be ready this weekend, although the latter is short of fitness.
  • Arsene Wenger has selection headaches in a number of forward positions. Olivier Giroud could return to the starting XI after Theo Walcott toiled against Newcastle. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could also be pushing for another start, but Aaron Ramsey could be preferred.
  • Mark Hughes will be without Charlie Adam and Ibrahim Afellay here, with the pair both missing out after each pickin up a red card in their last outing before the international break.
  • Affellay's absence could see a return to the starting fold for Jonathan Walters or the long awaited league return for Bojan.
  • Mirame Biram Diouf was respected as a precaution while on international duty but is expected to be fit here.

Prediction

  • Stoke have proven Arsenal's bogey side in recent years, but the team under Mark Hughes is now a far cry from the side that used to bully Arsenal into submission during Tony Pulis' era.
  • Arsenal are still yet to hit full stride this season and will need to find their shooting boots quickly. Of the 89 teams to have scored in Europe's top 5 leagues so far this season, Arsenal have the worst conversion rate (1.2%).
  • The Potters have picked up all three points in two of their last three matches against Arsenal, but they haven't won at Arsenal in the league since 1981. They haven't started the season particularly well and victory may be beyond them here.

  • great match by arsenal.

  • Arsenal-29 shots.very impressive

  • @glenbayern I wouldn't call that impressive.

  • A deserved win but Walcott should've had 3 or 4 goals (relatively easy chances too) and Giroud should've scored with his first touch. These are chances world class strikers invariably put away.

  • Wenger obviously praying Walcott will be our striking solution even though he knows as well as any Arsenal fan that Theo wont do jack against the top teams and will require 7 chances to score.

  • Ramsey RW again, what is wrong with Wenger? Rhetorical.

  • @SteveHyland Sometimes I just don't know what he is up to.

  • Arsenal 3 Stoke 1

  • Would not be surprised if Stoke upset Arsenal here.

  • 1 goal in 4 matches with 7 points on the board, Wenger is King 2-1

  • 2-1

  • 1-0 to the Arsenal with our top striker Own Goal scoring. Santi Cazorla MOTM.

  • @Overmars Picked the Santi MOTM F**k yeah!

  • I think we'll win by a couple of goals. I doubt Per will be fit for this game so I expect Gabriel to come in. With any luck, Wenger will play Chamberlain on the right wing instead of Ramsey. I'm not getting my hopes up though, Wenger likes imbalance. Cazorla needs to hit the form he's capable of if we're to put a run together. The way City have started, if we've to even still be in the title running come 2016, we need one.

  • 2-1 to stoke

  • Arsenal win with cleen sheet

  • @Underpauler Well done sir.

  • It's time for a home win. 2-0 from me. Relaxed and calm Giroud on the scoresheet.

  • @ramsey You picked it. Hope you had money on the result.

  • Arsenal should have either signed a striker or found a solution to their perpetual injury crisis(which is impossible). Another season we fight for fourth position and get relegated at CL 16 position.

  • @hasan- It was farcical Wenger failed to sign a world class striker when it was clear that was our biggest (only?) roadblock in challenging for the title (Wenger's terrible tactics against the top teams aside). He had 3 months to convince somebody Arsenal was the best club for them yet he failed. As Arsenal fans, we get fed this BS that Wenger has a lot of clout within the game. Well, evidently not as much as he thought. I understand Benzema not wanting to leave Real and us not wanting to spend £50m on a 28-year old Cavani but Higuain and Lacazette both reportedly turned us down even though they are at lesser clubs (no offence to supporters of Napoli and Lyon) and would've cost far less. Nothing will change while our club is an autocracy though. I fully expect a statue of Wenger's head, a la Lenin in Ulan Ude, to be displayed outside the Emirates on Arsene's retirement.

  • @SteveHyland what the hell are you on about? Lacazette never turned us down, he isn't good enough hence why he doesn't get picked for the france squad even after having the best season of his life. Even 19 year old Martial is getting into the france squad so........ Also, Napoli said Higuain is not for sale and has a buy out clause of 70m.

  • @JMCD- Actually yes there were enquiries regarding Lacazette, and not only from Arsenal, but he wanted to stay. Sakho was made captain of France by Deschamps so he is hardly the judge of talent. You should look at his stats compared to the top strikers in the world. His conversion rate was ridiculous and the France league has no lesser defenders than the Spanish. The only things he can't do well are head the ball & hold the ball up with his back to goal, everything else he is at least "good" at. You should do some research.

  • @hasan ok now welbeck is out till Christmas !! .... I hope wenger has a plan.

  • @hasan Might see Joel Campbell play a bit more as Welbeck's injury means Joel is now 3rd or 4th choice ST and 4th or 5th choice LW/RW.

  • @Overmars haha.... joel needs a good match to prove his worth. If only wenger believed in rotation we would have less injuries....

  • @hasan He could get some game time vs Zagreb. I fancy Giroud to start in Croatia.

  • Grudge match vs the Orcs and they are missing Afellay and Chief Urukhai Charlie Adam.
